This year marks the conclusion of the third expedition of Progetto Mediterranea for the three-year period 2024-2026, part of the macro-route that has been proceeding since 2013 throughout the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, the Spanish, Portuguese and Moroccan Atlantic. Route 2026 will still be in Greek waters, departing from the port of Alexandroupouli in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, on the border with Turkey, and then heading south between the first islands of Lemnos and Lesvos and then Chios, Samos, Leros and the entire Dodecanese up to Kastellorizo, up to Rhodes. After 13 years, we’re still here, beginning this 14th year of sailing the Mediterranean, getting to know ports and cities mile after mile, not disembarking unless there’s a good reason to do so – and often curiosity isn’t – talking about the Sea in its essence, engaging in dialogue with intellectuals and scientists, exchanging gifts with those who welcome us with the sweet sound of the word “Filoxenìa,” seeking to ever more deeply understand the knowledge hidden within the folds of this small yet extraordinarily immense Mare Nostrum.
