“In Trani in 1603 the Consuls elect of the Guild of Navigators, a newly established corporation governing shipping, piracy, maritime trade and marine service, promulgated the Ordinances and Custom of the Sea, i.e. a convention regulating life throughout the Mediterranean Sea. Thus, for the first time the relation between man and shipping was given a juridical character. Trani is, therefore, homeland to those who are, feel, and want to promote a common Mediterranean Citizenship, that is women and men at the centre of their own history, linked to those who are to be remembered, active citizens on land and at sea, who are not alienated by senseless modernity, but real progressive citizens rather than oblivious inhabitants of contemporary times. Here is where Mediterranea leads us all. Here are the stories we are looking for. Useful stories to be collected, enjoyed and told you.”
